About Colourjam
Colourjam is a Web & Print design company established by myself Chris Thornton at the start of 2004. I am a sole trader and specialise in front end design and back end systems for websites.
The business began after many months of fruitless job hunting after I completed my Computing degree at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen mid 2003. It was so disheartening to apply for hundreds of jobs and not receive a single interview. Checking out the existing design companies back in 2004, I had a strong feeling I could do better than the poor work I was observing.
The idea to start my own business was born out of a website I made - the 'Highland Ultimate Bands List' website. Its launch was featured in the Northern Scot newspaper. Readers read the article and were impressed with the website design and soon offers of web design work were coming in and the idea to start a design business as a valid career option was made much more solid.
After a lot of help from the Princes Trust, and MBSE (now HIE Moray) the business officially started in June 2004. Since then I feel the business has went from strength to strength, and I have to say it’s my perfect job!
I am very laid back and approachable and will often work deals with clients to best fit available budgets and special requirements. I also like to help out new startup businesses and occasionally carry out work for charitable organisations free of charge.

Most of the time I can design the look of a project without taking payment so you can see the possible result of the final project… at this point you would be free to try another company if you weren’t keen on any aspect of the design with no strings attached. Only when the project was finalised would you be expected to pay for the project in it's entirety.
To help span the costs of any work required I can also work a deal where you pay for 50% of your project on completion and the remaining 50% at a later agreed date.
Basically I’m here to work with you to get the best final product, for the best price, timescale, and quality.
